The form breaks a project into six phases:

1. Alignment & Setup

2. Expert & Stakeholder Interviews

3. Desk Research

4. Qualitative Research, (in-person interviews or an online discussion board)

5. Client Workshop

Freelancers are to input their hours and fees into the phases that directly apply to their project needs.

We've provided a typical list of tasks associated with each phase to allow you to think through your timing and project involvement in a more detailed and organized way. Each phase also accounts for hard costs for things like incentives, transcripts and miscellaneous vendor fees.

The pre-filled tasks are meant to be a guide, but can be modified as needed by the user.

While most freelancers work independently, we've ensured that the cost sheet can help estimate costs for 2 freelancers at a time, if needed. Finally, we've provided a travel estimation sheet for freelancers who may need a more precise way to account for client travel.

While you don't need to be an expert at Excel, you must be somewhat familiar with how it works for this tool to be beneficial.
